J.M. Smucker Co. promoted John Mayer from vice president of customer development to VP of salesgrocery market. He’s been with the company 29 years. He succeeds Don Hurrle, who is retiring. The Orrville, Ohio, company also added “corporate o cer” titles to Jim Brown, VP of U.S. grocery sales, and Jeannette Knudsen, acquisition and securities counsel. Oscar G. Mayer, the third Oscar Mayer and last one to lead the Wisconsin-based meat processing company that bears his name, died July 6 in Fitchburg, Wis., at the age of 95. His grandfather, Oscar F. Mayer, founded a predecessor company in Chicago in 1900. Oscar G. Mayer retired in 1977 as chairman of the company, now based in Madison, Wis., soon after the company recorded its first \$1 billion sales year. The company was sold to General Foods, and is now a division of Kraft Foods Inc.
